Virgin coconut oil melting on skin for massage

Coconut oil as a massage oil

Coconut oil is solid below 24°C and liquid above it, so it melts the moment it meets your palms. That gives you control most bottled massage oils cannot: you scoop exactly what you need, warm it, and go.

It has good slip without being greasy, so hands glide rather than drag, and it absorbs instead of sitting on the surface. It is also the standard base for your own blends, a few drops of ginger for warmth or lavender for calm. If you would rather not mix your own, the massage oil range is already blended.

What cold pressed actually means

Most supermarket coconut oil has been heated, bleached and deodorised. That is why it is clear, odourless and cheap.

Cold pressing presses the flesh mechanically at low temperature, with nothing added or stripped. The oil still smells of coconut, which is the simplest test there is: if yours smells of nothing, it has been refined. The trade-off is yield, since cold pressing gets far less oil from the same coconut, and that is the honest reason it costs more.
